Health/ Sports/ Social ServicesParticipation, associationism and reduction of inequalities
Health should not only be defined as the absence of disease, but understood as a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being. Thus it depends, largely, on people’s living conditions.
Social inequalities in health are characterised by systematic, unfair and avoidable differences in health among people from different population groups. Public policies, and therefore municipal policies, can improve the living conditions of the population, thereby enabling an improvement in health. Redistributing resources more equitably will also reduce health inequalities.
Sport, meanwhile, is a transversal activity. In addition to its health benefits, sport also promotes values such as respect and
coexistence and can enhance socio-affective relationships. Healthy habits, participation, empathy and motivation are all key elements of sport. We will promote programmes to promote the practice of sport among our neighbors.
Of course, the protection of people and their fundamental rights can only be guaranteed by a public system that has the maximum possible resources. The welfare state effectively begins in the social services of the Town Hall.
That is why we propose:
- We will work together in a consensual manner with all the municipal political forces so that our municipality has a 24-hour medicalized ambulance service.
- We will demand more personnel from the Ministry of Health for the Serra Nord Health Center, expanding and improving health services and thus offering better care to users.
- We will demand a mental health unit/addictive behaviors unit.
- We will fight against the social stigma, the false information and the myths surrounding Social Services to bring them closer to the population of the entire municipality. This will be done by offering open talks to explain the functions of the different professionals, both in educational centers and in the general population.
- We will promote information, training and counseling for the adult population, with health programs and other municipal activities. We will focus on disease prevention and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
- We will work on increasing psychosocial interventions in groups (emotional work, grief groups…) and in a community network, as well as reviewing and updating current coordination protocols if necessary.
- We will coordinate and make the uses of existing sports facilities in the municipality more accessible.
- We will implement municipal policies against energy poverty.
- We will promote citizen participation in the rehabilitation of Campo Infante Lois park in Port Sóller.
