Gender / Equality / FeminismFor a more inclusive Sóller
The women of Sóller, their cultural contribution, feminist activism and the LGBT struggle are a key part of the heritage of our valley. Their struggles and contributions must be recognized and made visible. A gender perspective must inform and guide public policy.
We need a more attentive Sóller, with awareness-raising, visibility, training, education and protection, where our institutions, hand-in-hand with the citizenry, stand up to fight sexist violence.
Therefore:
- We will implement the Municipal Equality Plan.
- We will promote the Espai Dona (Women’s Centre) to promote the revitalization of feminist groups in the region and decentralize psychological and legal advice to victims of any type of sexist violence.
- We will offer information on gender equality and LGBT at the Espai Dona and in the communication channels of the Town Hall.
- “Because they were, we are”: A campaign to promote awareness of the significant women of the Sóller with more streets, squares and municipal spaces with their names.
- We will promote prevention, awareness and training programs for equality, especially among youth.
- We will promote training in Gender Equality among administration personnel.
- We will promote the creation of an adult professional qualification programme to offer opportunities for professional improvement to women who work in the service sector, with programs that take into account job insecurity, seasonality and work/life balance.
- We will support the celebration or commemoration of the key days in the LGBT struggle, consolidating the celebration of Pride as an institutional event.
- We will work and collaborate with neighborhood associations, school parent associations and other citizen and cultural bodies, to carry out initiatives to raise awareness around LGBT issues and the value of equality in diversity.
- We will promote campaigns and initiatives with regard to awareness, prevention and the eradication of discrimination and violence against LGBT people. We will champion the positive value of diversity in terms of gender identity and expression, affective-sexual and family relationships, providing special attention to especially discriminated sectors of the population.
