How we treat animals is a sign of our humanity, of how advanced and civilized our society is. Animals deserve a life that is free from suffering, humiliation and exploitation. That is why it is a priority to advance in the protection of their rights.
The 2030 Agenda envisions a development model in which “humanity lives in harmony with nature and other species”. However, while the relationship between environmental well-being and human development is an increasingly researched issue, there is less awareness about the crucial role that animal welfare plays in sustainability and development for people and the planet. Animals need to be truly recognized as sentient beings with feelings-
We need to move towards a more democratic and ecological citizenship with proposals that make Sóller the gold standard in animal welfare and rights, coexistence and the protection of biodiversity.
Therefore:
- We will launch a responsible ownership educational program available to all schools in Sóller.
- We will create a municipal animal welfare brigade endowed with sufficient funds to ensure the welfare and feeding of stray cats. We will run a permanent Catch-neuter-vaccinate-return (CNVR) program.
- We will carry out educational campaigns, informing residents of the compulsory sterilization of all cats with access to the outside and about the obligation for pets to have a chip and up-to-date vaccinations.
- We will promote the adoption of animals on a website and on municipal social networks.
