The lack of cultural infrastructure in Sóller is alarming. While other towns have state-of-the-art auditoriums and theaters, the lack of political will here has created a dystopian cultural landscape in which we have outstanding artists and elite athletes who cannot develop their potential to the full due to lack of infrastructure in Sóller .
Lackluster policy means many of us look to the thriving cultural past with nostalgia and a degree of envy.
Our town’s built heritage is priceless and it needs adequate resources if it is to be preserved. And we need to implement public policies that promote the cultural sector in our valley.
That is why we propose:
- We will finish the rehabilitation of the Defensora Theater.
- We will update the collaboration agreements with the cultural/sports entities of the municipality and we will open a participatory call for ideas, proposals and subsidies.
- We will improve the coordination of cultural activities that can be carried out by different entities and associations, especially with regard to the uses of municipal spaces, and we will support them from the Town Hall.
- We will promote associationism. We will organize a day for the cultural associations of the region to make their activities visible and encourage interaction and collaboration between them. We will convene a twice yearly forum of all the actors in the cultural/sports sector.
- We will promote citizen participation in the rehabilitation of Campo Infante Lois in Puerto de Sóller.
- We will start up a municipal radio, on an authorized frequency. We envisage an engaging and quality medium of communication, with cultural and entertainment programs, aimed at promoting the creativity of our young people.
- We will encourage greater involvement of neighbourhoods, associations and neighbors in local festivals and we will make available an adequate budget.
- We will promote the conservation and dissemination of our popular culture and heritage.
- We will definitively approve the heritage catalog (required by law), as well as the final process of its adaptation to the Mallorca Territorial Plan.
