A good education system is our best tool to achieve a fairer, more equitable society. Of course, social inequalities also affect the education system itself, affecting the educational and life opportunities of children, young people and adults, as well as the learning conditions in schools. But school should not be the only space where learning happens. Community projects should be developed with families, as well as programs of extracurricular activities that foster values of coexistence and equality.
The growing number of families facing a housing emergency, and the lack of specific resources aimed at protecting children’s development in the family, social and educational spheres, makes it difficult to ensure the rights of adolescent boys and girls.
We need to ensure equal opportunities and make the education system compensatory and corrective of inequalities and a factor of social change.
Meanwhile, adolescence is a time when the foundations of adult citizenship are laid. The uncertainties of this stage in life are currently aggravated by socioeconomic factors and the dearth of future prospects.
In a society where young people cannot forge a path of their own, where available jobs rarely match qualifications or the abilities and potential of the
new generations, and where enjoying healthy leisure can be a luxury, we need robust associations and powerful public organizations to create a fair and safe space for the youth of Sóller.
- We are committed to free public education for ages 0-3 years’ old. We will thus increase the municipal places for children aged 0 to 3 to satisfy the needs of Sóller families, ensuring that no family is unable to send their children to school due to lack of resources. We will review pricing based on income and we will offer scholarships for those families who cannot pay. Likewise, we will promote a municipal childcare center in the Port of Sóller.
- We will increase the budget for education and youth.
- We will promote a comprehensive renovation of the “Es Puig” Sports Center.
- We will guarantee adequate maintenance of schools, listening to the School Boards, as they know better than anyone what needs to be done. Likewise, we will promote the progressive reintroduction of the figure of the concierge.
- We will optimize youth clubs and promote new municipal or social leisure spaces for young people, promoting a healthy and responsible leisure model based on participation and self-management.
- We will work to ensure the continuity of the Patis Oberts programme, so that young people have spaces to share activities during the evenings and also at weekends. We will promote municipal educational, cultural and sports centers as meeting places with a sustainable leisure model.
- We will create a municipal coworking space for young entrepreneurs.
- We will support initiatives for the recruitment of young people by local companies or those that work with the municipality.
