Environment and Waste Towards a greener and more energy sovereign Sóller
Climate change is a reality. It is everyone’s obligation to adopt measures that allow us to develop our lives without destroying the environment.
At Podemos Sóller we are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the Town Hall. The correct management of waste, the improvement of the energy efficiency of public spaces, the implementation of green energy, the protection of natural spaces, the quality of the air and the correct management of water are a priority. We need to ensure that human activity is compatible with respect for the environment.
It is possible to gradually abandon traditional forms of energy production thanks to technology. Wind generation and photovoltaic energy offer us the option of generating the power we need locally. We must take advantage of the Balearic Government Decree that guarantees self-consumption and develop a strategic plan for photovoltaic parks and energy communities to achieve maximum independence from traditional sources. Sóller could set the gold standard for the generation of green energy.
Waste management eats a huge part of the Town Hall budget. It is in our hands to consume responsibly and stop seeing waste as a problem and start seeing it as a valuable resource. We will work for a Sóller with zero waste.
The natural environment is an essential resource, both for life and for a large part of the socioeconomic model that we aspire to enjoy in the municipality. It is necessary to continue promoting the creation of green spaces such as parks and gardens, as well as areas dedicated to urban gardens.
We must preserve natural spaces in order to have an ecologically sustainable future. Likewise, the natural environment is a resource for the economy of the municipality, since it allows for a seasonal adjustment of the tourist offer and leisure activities. A healthy natural environment is also essential for local agricultural production.
It is time to make transformative policies that put people and their well-being at the forefront of the Town Hall’s priorities. It’s time to build a society that’s fairer, more ecological, more egalitarian, more inclusive and more integrated with the natural environment.
